The sun is finally shining...and hoards of blackflies are out......My arms look like pin cushions and that means that early summer has arrived... The boat is in..most of the mice have been caught...The water is on and the grass has had its first hair cut.....So now everyone is just resting....enjoying the solitude before we rejoin the malestrom that is daily life......The only concession to technology is the internet...but That is passive..I write, check the weather, and chat with family...I find it soothing in that context. So that's what I'm up to....more later

Driving down the country roads today, I marvelled at the explosion of life as late spring really gets going. Out of the chaos of winters fridgid hibernation comes a celebration of life. Yet many people still insist that this creation is just the happenstance of chemicals aligned by chance in the primordial seas of infant earth. I look to math for proof of a greater power. Entropy....the degrading of systems, so eloquently stated in the laws of thermodynamics, is totally repudiated by the force of life.. In life systems go from disorder to order....but not only is this order spectacular it is mathematically percise. One only has to look at the Fibonacci series to see this is true. One of the most spectacular examples of the Fibonacci Series in nature is in the head of the sunflower. Scientists have measured the number of spirals in the sunflower head. They found, not only one set of short spirals going clockwise from the centre, but also another set of longer spirals going anti clock...

As a teacher, I believe my primary role is to help kids develop a positive dream for their future...The facts and curriculum follow easily if the student is positive and excitied about their future....Idol is all about dreams....and without dreams life is almost pointless... We just trudge from one task to another like a bunch of worker ants in the colony. The "daily grind" has to be offsett by some joyful moments.. It's this juxtaposition that allows the highs to be so meaningful. So as Idol comes to an end it is a celebration of the dream......The idea that a guy working in a guitar shop... a jouneyman bar band musician can become a household name.....BO never lost sight of his dream.... Carrie, small town farm girl, is also a study in hope and good fortune.. She demonstrates all that is right about amazing talent and good family values....They come from opposite sides of the dream equation, yet there they are, role models for my young students...... It's Monday afternoon and the sky is leaden grey again and scudding low clouds are obscuring Mt. Orford. It's May and noththing has started to bloom yet...everything is waiting...dormant....poised for that huge explosion of growth the summer sun will bring... My soul feels the same way......This grey heavy feeling like the rain pounding on the roof....that gnawing feeling when you sense foreboding but can't put a finger on the cuase. It has to be the culmination of a very emotonally draining year....It is a father's role to be the facillitator..the one that makes sure everything and everyone stays on course...I see the big picture and letting go of this role has left me purposeless. My two son's need me less and rightfully so, although the youngest one is drifting. I know deep in my heart that he has to make his own way but I fear, much like an analogy from Star Wars, that he is being courted by the darkside, so I feel impotent and helpless as life usurps my ro...
